FAQs
Answers to common questions about our rug yarns, kits, and sourcing.
What is a “bump”?
A bump is a large, mill-spun bundle of rug yarn. Our Full Bumps contain approximately 100 yards of thick, core-spun wool yarn.Mini Bumps contain approximately 25 yards and are ideal for accent colors and smaller projects.
How much yarn do I need to weave a rug?
As a general guide:
- One Full Bump (~100 yards) will make approximately a 2' x 2' rug, depending on weave density.
- Larger rugs will require multiple bumps.
- Mini Bumps are perfect for borders, accent colors, or smaller projects.
If you're unsure, feel free to contact us — we're happy to help estimate yardage for your project.
Is your wool soft?
Yes — our yarn is very soft and pleasant to handle.
It is designed for rugs and durable textiles, so it is not “next-to-sensitive-skin” garment soft. Instead, it has a substantial feel with structure and strength.
It softens slightly with use while maintaining the durability needed for long-lasting woven pieces.
Are your colors consistent between batches?
We work primarily with natural, undyed fleece tones sourced from regional farms.
Because wool is a natural fiber, subtle shade variation may occur between batches. We view this as part of the beauty of natural materials.
If you are working on a large project, we recommend purchasing sufficient yardage from the same batch when possible.
Are your kits beginner-friendly?
Yes.
Our rug weaving kits are designed so beginners can successfully complete their first project while still producing a substantial, useful piece.
Step-by-step instructions are included, and we continue to expand our educational resources.
Is your yarn always available?
We produce in small batches but aim to maintain consistent stock of our core colors.
Unlike one-time limited drops, our goal is to offer reliable availability while preserving quality and regional sourcing.
Where is your wool sourced?
Our wool is sourced from farms in New York and the surrounding region, including flocks participating in the NY Grown & Certified program.
We process fiber in-house in Western New York using traditional mill equipment.
